Unit Conversion Basics: Metric vs Imperial

  2. Watch for rounding — intermediate rounding errors compound; round only at the final step
  3. Check the context — a "cup" in Australia (250 ml) differs from a "cup" in the US (237 ml)
  4. Know the quick approximations — 1 kg ≈ 2.2 lb, 1 liter ≈ 1 quart, 1 mile ≈ 1.6 km
  5. Understand significant figures — if your measurement has 2 significant digits, your conversion should too
